About This Show

Constant Star, written and directed by Tazewell Thompson, is an inspiring and true story about Ida B. Wells — a passionate, uncompromising, fiery champion of equality for women and black Americans. Wells was a suffragette, newspaper editor and publisher, co-founder of the NAACP, political candidate, mother, wife, and the single most powerful leader in the anti-lynching campaign in America.

A play with unforgettable music, it weaves 20 classic spirituals sung a capella in five-part harmony into the stirring story of Wells’ brave life. The result is energetic, unsparing, illuminating and humorous.
