Griot New York

The Garth Fagan Dance Company presents Griot New York a full-evening modern dance work combining movement, sculpture, and music–the result of an innnovataive collaboration between choreographer Garth Fagan(choreographer of the Broadway production The Lion King), composer/musician Wynton Marsalis, and sculptor Martin Puryear. Fagan’s inspiration for Griot New York came from his own experiences in west Africa where he listened to a storyteller called a griot, who interprets and retells tribal histories in terms of their deepest meaning.
