About the Show

The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Colorado, Boulder presents Roulette by Paul Weitz (co-writer for Antz and co-director of the American Pie films and About A Boy). This sharp-tongued, broken-hearted and seriously funny play takes a look at a dysfunctional suburban family and their neighbors, turning elements of the traditional family sitcom on its ear.

The characters include a dizzy, distant dad; a sweet, adulterous, alcoholic mom; a steroid-hyped son; and a wise-cracking and substance-abusing teenage daughter. And of course there’s that obligatory crazy couple next door. She’s a seizure-prone agoraphobe; he’s having an affair with a woman whom he likes to call Mommy in moments of passion. Each family member withdraws from life – either with drugs, sex, working out or retreating into the bathroom. Chris Shonka directs.

A 2:00pm matinee is arranged for Sunday, February 18.
