Dona Rosita, The Language of the Flowers

About the Show

Caffeine Theatre Company presents Dona Rosita, The language of the Flowers, Lorca’s whimsical and poetic portrait of 1900’s Spain which comes alive in a new translation of a warn yet heart-rending drama of lost love, hopeful choices, and passing time.

Rosita weathers a long engagement in the house of her flower-obsessed uncle, lace-obsessed aunt, and meddling housekeeper. As time passes, a stream of comic visitors reflects the technological advances of the early twentieth-century, as well as the stagnant cultural attitudes that trap women in an unchanging society. This rarely-performed play uses poetry to evoke a moment in time in a lost Granada.
