About This Show

The Shaw Festival is proud to present Shaw’s The Apple Cart, directed by Richard Greenblatt. Big business is now the real power in the United Kingdom. Only seven percent of the people bother to vote and politicians, badly paid and divided by the press, squabble amongst themselves. It’s left to King Magnus to keep everything in perspective and he’s being forced into a corner. A constitutional crisis is only compounded by the decision of the United States to rejoin the British Commonwealth. Witty as Shaw always is, this delicious play surprises at every turn.
