About This Show

The Shaw Festival is proud to present Noel Coward’s Easy Virtue, directed by Christopher Newton. We’re in the world of the Whittaker family – upper middle class with horses somewhere – a world of dogs and wilting dahlias and a substantial income. The Whittaker women are comic monsters. They rattle around in this rather grand house with nothing better to do than meddle in other people’s affairs. And, of course, they are conventionally horrified when the son of the house marries an older divorcée, whose glamour and wit present a frightening challenge to the social and sexual status quo.
