The Yeston-Kopit Phantom, written but not produced before the other version, rounds out the American Musical Theatre’s 65th season. Erik first hears Christine as she is demonstrating songs at a local bistro. He knows her voice is perfect for the Paris Opera, and arranges for her to audition. The new management?Carlotta and her husband?have none of it and send her to the costume shop. Offended by this, Erik unleashes his organ-sweeping anthems and feats of daredevilry which lead to tragic results. The original star, Richard White, reprises his role for this production.
