About the Show

Stage Door Conservatory presents Gypsy, featuring a book by Arthur Laurents with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It is frequently considered one of the crowning examples of the mid-20th century’s “book musicals.” Gypsy is loosely based upon the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her struggle with her mother, Mama Rose, who is often referred to as the “ultimate show business mother.” It contains many popular standards, including such songs as “Small World,” “Everything’s coming Up Roses,” “You’ll Never Get Away from Me,” and “Let me Entertain You.”

Gypsy is performed by a talented cast of teenage actors with direction from Heather Raines and musical oversight by Marc Lionetti.
