Winner of three Tony Awards, Barnum traces the career of Phineas Taylor Barnum, from building his museum of curiosities, to bringing the “Swedish Nightingale,” Jenny Lind, to America, and joining James Anthony Bailey in the creation of “the greatest show on earth.” Defender of “the noble art of humbug,” P.T. Barnum possessed a wonderful, freewheeling ambition and the ability to paint a coat of polish on the hard facts of life. Featuring such memorable songs as “Join the Circus,” “The Colors of My Life” and “There’s a Sucker Born Ev’ry Minute,” Barnum tells the story of one of the most fascinating individuals in our history, while celebrating the spirit of American showmanship. This world premiere revival is directed by John Doyle, who took home the 2006 Tony Award for his direction of the hit Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
