tick, tick…BOOM!

Before the revolutionary rock musical Rent, Jonathan Larson had another story to tell…his own. Rubicon Theatre Company opens its eighth season with the West Coast Premiere of tick, tick…BOOM!, an intimate, heartfelt three-person musical that tells the story of Jonathan Larson’s early days as a struggling artist in SoHo. It’s the week of Jonathan’s 30th birthday. His girlfriend wants to get married (tick), his best friend is working on Madison Avenue and moving uptown (tick) and Jonathan is still waiting tables and trying to write the great American musical before time and, unbeknownst to him, life, passes by (BOOM!). tick, tick…BOOM! is a pop rock musical about daring to hope, living life fully, and finding the courage to chase your dreams.

Book, music and lyrics are by Jonathan Larson. David Auburn (Pulitzer Prize for Proof), was brought into the complete the script by Jonathan’s family after Jonathan’s death. Scott Schwartz directs, with choreography is by Christopher Gattelli and musical direction is by Brent Crayon. The production stars Wilson Cruz, Natascia Diaz, and Andrew Samonsky.
