New York City
The Summer Playwrights Festival will take place at our 2 locations: The Road on Lankershim and The Road on Magnolia in NoHo. Road company members perform 25 plays in 8 days with guest artists that have included Bryan Cranston, Kathy Baker, Rondi Reed, Jennifer Tilly, Perry King, and playwrights Keith Huff, Craig Wright, Octavio Solis, Lucy Thurber, Wendy MacLeod and many others. The festival features talk-backs with playwrights, directors and cast and a reception with audience and artists featuring live music each night. The festival is headed by Associate Artistic Director Scott Alan Smith, and festival producers Carlyle King, Avery Clyde, and Darryl Johnson. The Summer Playwrights Festival has been the source of past season selections for The Road Theatre’s main stage, including our current show, Cooperstown by Brian Golden, which was featured in our 2011 festival. The Road Theatre is dedicated to the development and nurturing of new plays and playwrights, and this festival serves to bring together artists and audience for a celebration of that work.
