Theatre 40 closes its 2006-2007 season with the West Coast premiere of Quartet, on eof Ronald Harwood’s funniest and most poignant plays. Laura James directs.
The comedy is about four retired opera singers who were once the brightest stars of the opera world. They now blissfully reside in a home for retired singers. A new resident – a high strung, demanding diva that is the ex-wife of one of the singers, soon shatters their tranquility.
Memories of personal and professional glories and disaster are unleashed and sparks erupt into comic fireworks when the four are asked to recreate their signature quartet from Rigoletto for the home’s annual celebration of Verdi.
