About This Show

Pinafore!, one of Celebration Theatre’s biggest musical hits is being brought back to Los Angeles for ONE NIGHT ONLY, but this time, with over 80 (of the over 200) members of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles for a very special evening, Pinafore! The Concert!

This event will bring together most of the original cast of the much acclaimed Los Angeles production and accompanying them is the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles adding their 80 plus voices to all of the choral parts. The “Queered” version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic operetta H.M.S. Pinafore has been adapted to critical acclaim by Mark Savage. The show won seven LA WEEKLY Awards including Best Musical Production, Best Adaptation, Best Musical Ensemble and Choreography, three Backstage West Garland Awards including Best Production and won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and Robby Award for Best Adaptation.

Pinafore! responds to “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” in its own unique style while still telling a fully realized update of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic. The President has created a separate but equal gay navy and appointed liberal Senator Barney Crank as Admiral. While docked in the gay friendly port of Palm Springs, Senator Barney arrives with new recruits to shake up the Pinafore. He is also to meet the Captain’s’ son Joseph (in drag as “Josephine”) who shares affection with the self-proclaimed “heterosexual gay sailor” Dick Dockstrap.
