Maria Morevna follows the tale of Ivan, a Christian poet-prince, and Maria, a pagan warrior princess during Russia’s early days. As Maria sets out to protect the borders of her kingdom, she tells Ivan of a dangerous prisoner, Koshchey, in the dungeon, and cautions that he is left to be alone. Letting curiosity get the better of him, Ivan visits the prisoner – a seemingly old man – whose pitiful pleas to help move Ivan to release him. Once free, “Koshchey the Deathless” magically becomes young, powerful, demonic and hell bent on destroying Russia.
