About This Show

Man of La Mancha tells the story of Miguel de Cervantes, who, captured by the Spanish inquisition, fights for his life and his most valued possessions by entertaining his fellow prisoners. He does so with the inspiring story of Don Quixote de la Mancha, who tilts at windmills and “fights for the right – without question or pause.” Rubicon’s production focuses on the play-within-the-play structure of this classic musical. Both inspiring and thought provoking, Man of La Mancha is guranteed to warm the heart of everyone whose spirits were ever raised by the prospect of an underdog victorious against all odds. The score is considered a classic and contains one of the most moving moments in musical theatre history as Don Quixote relates his personal credo in “The Impossible Dream.”

Man of La Mancha, a five time Tony® Award-winning musical, is presented as the final production in Rubicon’s 2005-2006 season and the third and final show in its Dale Wasserman Festival. The musical has a book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by Joe Darion, musical direction by David Potter, choreography by Cate Caplin and direction by James O’Neil. This production, the largest and most lavish of any show ever to appear on the Rubicon Theatre stage is presented during the 400th anniversary year of the publishing of Don Quixote and features a cast of 25, including George Ball as Cervantes/Don Quixote, Jennifer Shelton as Aldonza, Jamie Torcellini as Sancho Panza, Randal Keith as the Governor and Joseph Fuqua as the Duke.
