About This Show

Long Stay Cut Short is two One Act Plays by Tennessee Williams, directed by Jack Heller. Actors Art Theatre is very happy to present two gems from one of America’s most inspired and inspiring playwrights. Tennessee Williams portrays outcasts of society, struggling for their lives in a world that rejects them. Williams has said that his short plays are “as close to social consciousness as any" he ever wrote.

The evening includes…the Unsatisfactory Supper. Aunt Rose, an elderly spinster, has been passed from relative to relative and has worn out yet another welcome. As her physical and mental states deteriorate her family makes plans to unload her on anyone they can. It is from American Blues a Collection of short plays by Williams. He wrote this piece when he was ill and believed he was dying in 1946. It was Tennessee’s favorite one-act, comical tragedy.

Hello From Bertha is a portrait of a penniless, dying prostitute who is being evicted from the boarding house where she works. Deteriorating fast, Bertha tries to summon an ex-lover to rescue her. Published in 1945, from the 27 Wagons Full of Cotton and Other One Act Plays Collection.
