About the Show

Set in Chekhov’s villa in Yalta at the turn of the century, Chekhov in Yalta reenacts four topsy-turvy days in the life of Russia’s preeminent dramatist. The main conflict is between Chekhov and Stanislavsky who insisted that what Chekhov thought were light comedies actually played best as intensely realistic dramas. Place a flustered maid in the mix, ponder over Chekhov’s declining health, add various actors vying for upcoming roles, throw in assorted extramarital passions, and the result is, well, like a Chekhov play.
