Playwright Marci Crestani’s AGAINST THE GLASS makes its world premiere at The Court Theatre with Jenny SUllivan directing. Following the dramatic breakup of an affair with a married gallery owner, dispirited artist Amy beats a hasty retreat from San Francisco back home to rural Illinois to seak solace from her elderly grandparents. Their comic but genuine inability to understand both her life choices and abstract art pushes her to try and open their minds. Conversely, an encounter with her unrequited high school crush, now married, catapults Amy into facing her own moral and artistic complacence. In the process, she unwittingly rocks the foundation of her grandparents’ seemingly-solid 60 year marriage. This not only forces them to confront past infidelities of both body and spirit, but also teaches Amy that “even at 80, you can still be beating your wings against the glass.”
