This thrilling one-man play celebrates the life of jazz musician Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, with OBIE Award-winning actor John Douglas Thompson in the title role. Satchmo at the Waldorf marks the New England premiere of critically acclaimed author Terry Teachout’s first play. The time is March of 1971. Louis Armstrong is backstage at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, preparing for what will be his last performance. Thompson deftly moves back and forth over the 70-year life span of the world-famous jazzman as he recounts the absorbing details that make Louis Armstrong a legend who has transcended every era that followed him.
