Blues musician Robert Johnson left a cheap mail-order guitar in dusty crossroads in the 1920s. When he came back to pick it up, he could play guitar like no one else in the world. Some say he made a deal with the devil… This entrancing world premiere — Robert Earl Price’s Come On In My Kitchen — combines film, music, and live action to take you back to place of Johson’s legendary deal on the anniversary of his tragic 1938 death. There, past meets present as several contemporary African-American religious and political luminaries, less than satisfied with the outcome of their own bargains, gather. In trying to renegotiate their own deals, they find themselves more deeply enmeshed in Johnson’s story than they could have ever imagined. Del Hamilton directs.
