The Children’s Hour

About the Show

So scandalous when initially produced, the Pulitzer Committee refused to consider it for its prize. Lillian Hellman asserted repeatedly throughout her career that the show was not about lesbianism, but instead about the power of a lie. The Children’s Hour may be clearer to audiences today than when it set Broadway aflame in 1934.

This production is being offered as part of a 2007 festival celebrating the “stage to film” collaborations between Lillian Hellman and William Wyler, two renowned artists with Alabama connections.

Edward Miller directs.
