The Drowsy Chaperone stars Sutton Foster, Beth Leavel, Bob Martin, Danny Burstein, Georgia Engel, Edward Hibbert, Troy Britton Johnson, Eddie Korbich, Garth Kravits, Jason Kravits, Kecia Lewis-Evans, Jennifer Smith, and Lenny Wolpe will sign copies of the show’s cast recording on Wednesday, June 28 at the Virgin Megastore, Times Square (1540 Broadway, between 45th and 46th streets), from 5:30 to 7pm.
The show featrures music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. It began previews at the Marquis Theatre on April 3, 2006 and opened on May 1. The Drowsy Chaperone won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle and Drama Desk awards for Best Musical; it also received five Tony Awards including Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.
The cast album was recently released by Ghostlight Records, a division of Sh-K-Boom. In his TheaterMania review of the CD, Michael Portantiere wrote: “If you get your hands on the original Broadway cast recording of The Drowsy Chaperone, you’ll be all set up for a meta-theatrical experience of the highest order. Just in case you haven’t heard, The Drowsy Chaperone is actually the title of two musicals: the one that’s now on stage at the Marquis Theatre (what a bad choice for this show!) and the musical within the musical, a 1920s confection that comes to life as the show-tune worshipping ‘Man in Chair’ enjoys for the umpteenth time the fictional tuner’s fictional Broadway cast album. Now, thanks to Ghostlight, you can have pretty much the same experience as Man in Chair (Bob Martin) — though you probably shouldn’t expect glamorously costumed ’20s performers and colorful sets to suddenly appear in your living room when you listen.”
