The second slated production is How the World Began, a new play by Catherine Trieschmann, set to run from June 28-July 21. Directed by Joe Brancato, the play explores the age-old conflict between science and religion.
Brancato will then direct the world premiere of Drop Dead Perfect, a new comedy by Erasmus Fenn. Drama Desk Award winner Everett Quinton (The Witch of Edmonton) from the Ridiculous Theatrical Company will star as the heartbroken, half-mad Idris Seabright, who serves as the mistress of a Key West cottage when she and her ward are visited by a mysterious stranger. The production will run from August 9-September 1.
The world premiere of Walt McGough's modern-day spy story, The Farm, will close the mainstage season, running from September 27-October 20. Mark Shanahan will direct.
Penguin Rep also plans to present three special event performances including 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, written by and starring two-time Emmy Award winner and stand-up comic Judy Gold (The Rosie O'Donnell Show) on September 7, The Devil's Music: The Life & Blues of Bessie Smith on September 21, and A Salute to Sondheim, honoring the musical theater legacy of Stephen Sondheim, on October 5.
