Fake Smash Musical Bombshell Will See New York Concert Production
The Marilyn Monroe story comes to the stage for one night only.
Bombshell, the fake musical within the short-lived Broadway-themed television series Smash, will be presented on June 15, 2015, as a one-night-only benefit for The Actors Fund. Location, casting, and other additional information will be announced in the coming months.
Featuring a full score by Tony-winning Hairspray and Catch Me If You Can scribes Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, excerpts from Bombshell were seen throughout the first and second seasons of the NBC network drama, which aired in 2012 and 2013. The musical explores the life of actress Marilyn Monroe from her childhood to her untimely death.
On Smash, Bombshell won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical, for Megan Hilty's character, Ivy Lynn. A cast recording of the score as heard on the show, featuring Hilty alongside Katharine McPhee, Bernadette Peters, Christian Borle, Julian Ovenden, and more, was released in 2013.
The Bombshell concert is the second time a musical from within Smash has been performed in real life. Hit List, a show that featured prominently in the series' second season, was performed at 54 Below featuring Smash cast members including Jeremy Jordan and Krysta Rodriguez.
