Marvell Rep has announced the line-up and preliminary casting for its 2012 season, which will focus on provocative and incendiary plays that have been burned, banned and caused riots. All performances by Marvell Rep will be at TBG Theatre.

Sam L. Tsoutsouvas will star in the title role of Arthur Schnitzler’s Professor Bernhardi, (January 31-February 29), translated by G.J. Weinberger. The play is set in Vienna, in 1900, as a young woman is dying of septic poisoning from a backstreet abortion. The cast will also include Chris Kipiniak as Dr. Ebenwald and Geddeth Smith as Dr. Cyprian.

The production will run in repertory with Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s The Threepenny Opera (February 6-29), in an English version by Michael Feingold. The cast will feature Ariela Morgenstern as Jenny Diver, Angus Hepburn as Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum, Joy Franz as Mrs. Peachum, Emma Rosenthal as Polly Peachum, and Matt Faucher as Macheath.

God of Vengeance, by Sholem Asch, translated by Joseph C. Landis, will share a double bill with Eugene O’Neill’s Exoricism, October 2-28. These plays will run in repertory with Frank Wedekind’s Spring’s Awakening (October 8-November 4).

In the Summer, Marvell Rep will present the world premiere of Night Games, by Dianna Russell & Lenny Leibowitz. Inspired by Schnitzler’s novellas, the piece is described as “part steamy thriller, part revenge fantasy, part nightmare, and part odyssey of the soul.”
