Tony Winner Jessie Mueller Extends Her Beautiful Broadway Run
Mueller's Tony-nominated costars Jarrod Spector and Anika Larsen have also extended their contracts.
Jessie Mueller, the Tony Award-winning star of Beautiful — The Carole King Musical, has extended her contract with the new hit musical through March 6, 2015. Her Tony-nominated costars Jarrod Spector and Anika Larsen, who portray the legendary songwriting duo Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, have also extended their contracts, promising to remain with the show for another year through September 2015.
As previously announced, Scott J. Campbell takes over for original cast member Jake Epstein in the fourth leading role of Gerry Goffin, beginning September 23. Paul Anthony Stewart will also begin performances that same evening as Don Kirshner, replacing original cast member Jeb Brown in the role.
Beautiful opened on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on January 12. The show, which chronicles the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter Carole King, features a Tony-nominated book by Douglas McGrath. The musical's songs are written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "One Fine Day," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," and more.
The first American national tour of Beautiful will launch in September 2015, while a London production is set to open this coming February. According to a report by The Star, Chilina Kennedy (Jesus Christ Superstar) was expected to replace Mueller in the Broadway cast in early 2015, while the Tony-winning star joined the national touring cast. Mueller, however, will no longer be performing in the touring production.
