Sir Ian McKellen hosted the 11th annual
Only Make Believe Gala at the Shubert Theatre on Monday, November 1. Only Make Believe is the non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities.
The event featured a number of performances, including from the casts of Memphis and Billy Elliot: The Musical, with the role of Billy represented by Peter Mazurowski. Also in attendance were Stephen R. Buntrock, Frankie James Grande, Josh Lucas, Brad Oscar, Matthew Settle, Seth Rudetsky, and The Glamazons.
This year’s Gala honored Laura Armitage with The James Hammerstein Award for her outstanding dedication to children in need both on a local and global level, while philanthropist and author Cathy Lasry received the Founders’ Award for her exceptional commitment to children’s causes.
The 2011 Gala Co-Chairs included Gary Cohn, Cheryl & Blair Effron, Dena Hammerstein, Bruce & Martha Karsh, Gary Lynch, Kate Hall, Danielle & Chris Wearing, and George Weiss.
