The playwright (center) was surrounded by his talented cast: Halley Feiffer, Diksha Basu, Manu Narayan, Peter Scanavino, Jessica Capshaw, Daniel Eric Gold, Michael Esper, Kieran Culkin, and Gaby Hoffmann.
Also on hand for the opening were three of the stars of the show’s original 1994 production at Lincoln Center: Josh Hamilton, Martha Plimpton, and Zak Orth.
Many other celebrities came out for the festivities, including stage and screen favorite Parker Posey…
…Academy Award winner Anna Paquin, who appeared with Culkin in the Vineyard Theatre production of After Ashley…
… James McDaniel, well known for his role on NYPD Blue and the star of last season’s Second Stage revival of A Soldier’s Play…
…the red-hot Anthony Mackie, who also starred in A Soldier’s Play…
…and the lovely Julianne Nicholson, who recently joined the cast of NBC’s Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Two other special events also took place on Thursday evening. Famed ventriloquist Jay Johnson made his Broadway debut in Jay Johnson: The Two and Only at the Helen Hayes. Here’s the star celebrating afterwards at nearby Junior’s.
Among the celebs on hand for Johnson’s opening was two-time Tony Award winner Joel Grey, who will return to Broadway for one night only on November 14 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Chicago revival.
At New World Stages, there was a different kind of opening celebration — for the photo exhibit Francesco Scavullo: A Photographic Retrospective. Here’s actor-singer Randy Jones of The Village People, showing off his enthusiasm for the late, great photographer’s work…
…and here’s adult film star Spencer Quest, who just joined the cast of Naked Boys Singing!, showing off his manly physique.
On Tuesday, a host of stage and screen favorites joined hairdresser-to-the-stars Louis Licari at his Fifth Avenue salon for a party to benefit Cancer and Careers. On hand to show support was beautiful Oscar winner Jessica Lange, who’s set to play “Big Edie” Beale in a new movie version of Grey Gardens…
…another fabulous Oscar winner, Susan Sarandon, soon to be back on the big screen as legendary heiress Doris Duke…
…the multi-talented Chazz Palminteri, whose new movie A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints opens today and who will perform next month at Lorenzo’s in Staten Island…
…and one of the most-watched women in America, the ever-smiling Katie Couric.
