Agent Sam Cohn Dies at 79

Sam Cohn, the powerful agent who helped form mega-agency ICM in 1974, has died at age 79 in New York. The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory tonight, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.

His many clients over the years included Sigourney Weaver, Christopher Plummer and Irene Worth, Paul Wyman, Meryl Streep, Robin Williams, Liza Minnelli, Lily Tomlin, Whoopi Goldberg, Roy Scheider, Hume Cronyn, Zero Mostel, Jackie Gleason, Woody Allen, Mike Nichols, Bob Fosse, Arthur Penn, Nora Ephron, John Guare, E. L. Doctorow, Elizabeth Swados, John Kander, and Fred Ebb.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gelfman, a daughter, Marya Cohn, a son, Peter Cohn, and four grandchildren.
