Memphis to Launch National Tour in October 2011

The musical Memphis will launch a national tour in the city of Memphis, at the Orpheum Theatre in October 2011. Additional tour stops and a complete schedule will be announced at a later date.

Memphis is based on a concept by George W. George and features a book by Joe DiPietro and music and lyrics by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan. Set in the segregated South of the 1950s, the show follows the fictionalized life story of white radio disc jockey Huey Calhoon, who falls in love with both rock & roll and an electrifying black singer, Felicia Farrell.

Memphis opened at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway on October 19 and features direction by Christopher Ashley and choreography by Sergio Trujillo. The creative team includes David Gallo (scenic design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design) and Ken Travis (sound design).
