J. Bernard Calloway, Victor Trent Cooke, Robert Fowler, Andre Garner, Beth Glover, Alix Korey, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Tim Jerome, Michael Mandell, Patricia Noonan, and Destan Owens will join the previously reported Tony Award winner Lillias White in a special benefit concert performance of William Finn’s musical Romance in Hard Times, to be presented at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, on April 4. Michael Bush will direct, with musical direction by Matt Castle.

The musical, set in a soup kitchen at the height of the Great Depression, centers on Hennie, a pregnant woman who wills herself to not give birth until the world is a better place. Her determination attracts the attention of the nation and its first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. White won an Obie Award for her originating the role of Hennie in the musical.

In addition, George C. Wolfe will be honored with the “Rosie Award”, named for Amas’s founder. The Rosie Award “is bestowed on those individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary accomplishment and dedication in bringing our world more closely together through the performing arts.”

The evening is being held in support of Amas Theatre and Educational Programs and in celebration of Rosetta LeNoire’s 100th birthday. The benefit will also feature performances by the Academy Teens and the Maria Torres Emerging Artists.
