Grammy Award winner Michelle Williams is currently playing the role of Roxie Hart in the national tour of
Chicago, at Los Angeles’
Pantages Theatre. The opening night of the show on April 21 featured a wide range of celebrity guests from Film, Television, Stage and the Music scene.
Attendees included AJ Buckley, Wilson Cruz, Romi Dames, Ken Davitian, Kevin Eubanks, Corey Feldman, Arsenio Hall, Melora Hardin, Carolyn Hennesy, Shar Jackson, Kate Linder, Priscilla Presley, Jai Rodriguez, Jeffrey Ross, Mindy Sterling, Lea Thompson, JoAnne Worley, and John Lloyd Young.
Williams is perhaps best known for her work with Destiny’s Child. She first played the role of Roxie last year in the London company of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical. Her other stage credits include the title role in Aida on Broadway and the national tour of The Color Purple.
Chicago features a score by John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, including such hits as “All That Jazz,” “Mister Cellophane,” “Razzle Dazzle,” and “Nowadays.”
The touring production has been directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking. The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (scenic design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design), and Scott Lehrer (sound design). Chicago performs at the Pantages Theatre through this Sunday, May 9.
