The season will also feature the recent Broadway success, Rick Elice's Peter and the Starcatcher, which will play December 4-January 12. Roger Rees and Alex Timbers direct this tale of an orphan who heads to a magical, faraway land. From March 12-April 13, the theater will present Harmony, a new musical with book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman (Barry Manilow at the Gershwin) and music by recent Broadway performer Barry Manilow.
Another Broadway hit, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, will continue the season from April 23-June 1, with the Diane Paulus-directed story of a beautiful woman struggling to break free from her scandalous past in fabled Catfish Row. The season's final offering will be Queen and Ben Elton's We Will Rock You, running July 16-August 24, a musical based around the rock group Queen's biggest hits.
Two bonus offerings will round out the season. For only two weeks in November, Center Theatre Group will present Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty in a new production featuring music by Tchaikovsky. From June 11-July 6, David Suchet (Amadeus) will star in The Last Confession, a new play Roger Crane, directed by Jonathan Church, about the sudden death of Pope John Paul I in 1978.
