Jonathan Harvey will adapt the hit TV series Coronation Street into a stage show, according to a report on the website for the U.K. Magazine The Stage. The play, Coronation Street, Abridged Live!, is scheduled to begin performances on August 12 at the Lowry Theatre in Salford, prior to a U.K. tour.

The show will condense storylines from the last 50 years of Coronation Street, and be similar in style to shows by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.

Harvey is a current writer for the show. Among his other credits are the plays Beautiful Thing and Wildfire and the sit-com Gimme Gimme Gimme.

The television show Coronation Street was first broadcast in 1960, and is set in the fictional town of Weatherfield and focuses on the lives of its everyday characters.
