Instantly acclaimed when it opened on Broadway, American Buffalo is one of Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet's defining works. Treat Williams (Golden Globe Award nominee) and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis (The Motherf***er With the Hat) star in Dorset Theatre Festival's fresh look at this American classic. In a Chicago junk shop, three small-time crooks plot to rob a man of his coin collection. These high-minded grifters fancy themselves businessmen pursuing legitimate free enterprise, but they are merely pawns caught up in their own game and last-chance, dead-end pipe dreams.
In Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, comic master Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor) breathes new life into Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's dynamic detective duo. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of "the hound of the Baskervilles" before a family curse dooms its latest heir. Watch as our intrepid investigators untangle a dizzying web of clues and deceit. Does a wild hellhound really prowl the moors? Can our heroes discover the truth in time? Silly accents and disguises abound as five actors portray over 40 characters in this family-friendly adventure.
Downstairs is a thought-provoking family drama written with Tim and Tyne Daly in mind. This world premiere marks the first time that the two of them have worked together onstage. Theresa Rebeck's Downstairs follows the story of Eileen (Tyne Daly), whose brother Teddy (Tim Daly) has decided to move home and live in her basement. Eileen's husband is less than thrilled about this development. And Teddy is more than a little off his game. As the brother and sister struggle to understand their present and their past, questions of betrayal, disappointment, and madness rise and fall.
After years of struggling at a small-time club in the Florida Panhandle, Casey realizes it's now or never for his career as an Elvis impersonator. Matthew Lopez's hip-shakin', heartwarming tale explores what happens when one man trades in his blue suede shoes for platform pumps and discovers he ain't nothing but a drag queen.
Throughout the summer, Dorset Theatre Festival's New Play Reading Series introduces regional audiences to three of America's top emerging female playwrights. Each playwright spends five days in residency at the festival, and each artist's time culminates with a public reading of a new play. Mona Mansour (Unseen), Lauren Yee (Ching Chong Chinaman), and Paola Lázaro (Tell Hector I Miss Him) are the 2017 featured playwrights.
