Caroline Sheen to Replace Ashley Brown in National Tour of Mary Poppins

Caroline Sheen will play the title role in the national tour of Mary Poppins, beginning with the Thursday, February 11 performance at Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, AZ. She replaces Ashley Brown, who will play her final performance in Los Angeles at The Ahmanson Theatre on Sunday, February 7.

The musical, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title, is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. It has a book by Julian Fellows, and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Gavin Lee will continue in the role of Bert, while new cast members will also include Laird Mackintosh as George Banks, Blythe Wilson as Winifred Banks, Rachel Izen as Mrs. Brill, and Dennis Moench as Robertson Ay. The cast also features Ellen Harvey as Miss Andrew, Mary VanArsdel as Bird Woman, Mike O’Carroll as Admiral Boom, Katie Balen and Bailey Grey alternating as Jane Banks and Bryce Baldwin and Carter Thomas alternating as Michael Banks.

Rounding out the cast are Tia Altinay, Carol Angeli, Gail Bennett, Kiara Bennett, Brandon Bieber, Troy Edward Bowles, Elizabeth Broadhurst, Jonathan Brody, Kate Chapman, Elizabeth Earley, Michael Gerhart, Geoffrey Goldberg, Emily Harvey, Tiffany Howard, Kelly Jacobs, Sam Kiernan, Brian Letendre, Vanessa McMahan, Koh Mochizuki, Shua Potter, Dominic Roberts, Nick Sanchez, Q. Smith, Jesse Swimm, and Tom Souhrada.

Sheen, who previously played her role in the UK Tour of the musical, will be making her U.S. stage debut. She has played leading roles in West End and UK productions of The Light in the Piazza, Once in a Lifetime, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Grease, Les Miserables, The Witches of Eastwick, and Mamma Mia!
