Orlando Shakespeare Theater Announces 2009-2010 Season

The Orlando Shakespeare Theater has announced selections for its 2009-2010 season, which will kick off with The Big Bang (September 16-October 11), a musical about two wannabe producers at a backers audition, featuring a book by Jed Feuer, with music and lyrics by Boyd Graham.

Next up will be Harold Pinter’s Betrayal (October 14-November 8), which uses reverse chronology to tell the story of a married couple entangled in a deceitful, seven-year affair. Every Christmas Story Ever Told (December 2-27), by Michael Carleton, John Alvarez and Jim Fitzgerald, will feature three men and a “reingoat” telling tales of Christmas from around the world.

Shakespeare’s Hamlet will take the stage January 27-March 13, in repertory with the Bard’s All’s Well That Ends Well, February 10-March 14. The National New Play Network world premiere of Shotgun (March 17-April 11), by John Biguenet, is set four months after Katrina, as a white man and his teenage son rent half of a shotgun duplex apartment from an African-American woman and her father.

The company’s “Theater for Young Audiences” series will feature If You Give a Cat a Cupcake (October 22-November 21), based on the book by Laura Numeroff and adapted by Bob Dolan, and SchoolHouse Rock Live! (March 23-April 18), adapted from the series created by George Newall and Tom Yohe.

Special events will include PlayFest! The Harriett Lake Festival of New Plays (April 2-11) and the New Sunday Reading Series: The Greatest of the Greeks.
