Theater highlights include Mike Daisey's The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs and 7 Doigts' Traces, both of which met with critical acclaim for their New York runs. Daisey is also represented by another solo show, Teching in India.
Additional theater programming includes Dublin's Gate Theatre's production of Noël Coward's Hay Fever, directed by Patrick Mason; British theater collaborative 1927's The Animals and Children Took to the Streets; Peabody Award-winning journalist Jack Hitt's solo, Making Up the Truth; and Leo, performed by Tobias Wegner of Circle of Eleven.
Spoleto will feature American premieres of two landmark operatic works: Philip Glass' Kepler, directed by Sam Helfrich; and Feng Yi Ting, a contemporary Chinese opera by composer Guo Wenjing, directed by Atom Egoyan. The Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra will perform a concert featuring the American premiere of John Cage's 1991 orchestral trilogy Twenty-six, Twenty-eight, and Twenty-nine in addition to Doghouse by Jonny Greenwood of the rock band Radiohead.
Additional concerts will be given by Grammy Award-winning vocalist k.d. lang, renowned gospel singer Mavis Staples, and New Orleans' Grammy-nominated Rebirth Brass Band.
Dance offerings will include works from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet.
