World Premiere Adaptation of Ugly Duckling, Works by Adam Gwon, Donald Margulies Set for Serenbe’s Summer Season

Atlanta’s Serenbe Playhouse has announced the lineup for summer 2011, its second season.

The season will open with the Southeast premiere of Ordinary Days (June 2 – 25), a new musical by Adam Gwon which will be directed by by Justin Anderson and music directed by Will Shuler. Ordinary Days tells the story of four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love, and cabs.

The season’s second offering will be the world premiere of a new adaptation of The Ugly Duckling (July 1 – August 27). This adaptation by Joanna Brooks, Brian Clowdus, Chip Epsten and Rachel Teagle with music by Epsten will be directed by Clowdus. The Ugly Duckling will be presented in collaboration with Brooks & Co. Dance and choreographed by Joanna Brooks.

Serenbe’s last production of the season will be Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (August 4 – 27), an Atlanta premiere. The play, which is also set to be directed by Clowdus, is Pulitzer Prize winner Margulies’ telling of the story of the adventures of the 19th century English celebrity Louis de Rougemont.

Serenbe Playhouse was established in 2009 under the umbrella of its parent organization, the Serenbe Institute for Art Culture & the Environment, and produces plays with a commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
