Obba Babatunde, Laura Osnes, Patrick Page, et al. Among San Diego’s Craig Noel Award Winners

The San Diego Theatre Critics Circle presented its 2009 Craig Noel Awards on Monday at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in La Jolla.

One of the top winners was Darko Tresjnak’s staging of Cryano de Bergerac, which played at the Old Globe Theatre. It received awards for Dramatic Production and Direction of a Play, as well as the Lead Performance in a Play award for Patrick Page.

The La Jolla Playhouse production of the musical Bonnie and Clyde took honors for New Musical as well as individual honors for John McDaniel (both Direction of a Musical and Musical Direction awards), Laura Osnes (Lead Performance in a Musical, Female), and Melissa van der Schyff (Featured Performance in a Musical, Female).

Other awards include one for Obba Babatunde who received the Lead Performance in a Musical, Male award for his portrayal of Sammy Davis, Jr. in Sammy at the Old Globe and and Doug Wright who received an award for his adaptation of August Strindberg’s Creditors at La Jolla.
