The Irish Repertory Theatre has announced that the first production of its 28th theater season will be the American premiere of John McManus’ The Quare Land. Developed as part of the Irish Rep's Reading Series in 2014, the play will be directed by Ciarán O’Reilly (A Touch of the Poet). The production is set to run from September 22-November 15, with an October 1 opening, at the DR2 Theatre, the Irish Rep's temporary home during renovation of its home base in Chelsea.

The Quare Land will star Rufus Collins (The Royal Family) as Rob, and Peter Maloney (Outside Mullingar) as Hugh.

In the play, old Irish farmer Hugh Pugh is having a bubble bath — his first wash in four years — when developer Rob McNulty stops by, hoping to buy a field to convert to a golf course. But Hugh is far more interested in spinning yarns than signing contracts. Excruciating negotiations ensue, amid the suds and rubber duck, in this hilarious meeting of avarice and ambition.

The Quare Land features scenic design by Charlie Corcoran, costume design by David Toser, lighting design by Michael Gottlieb, and sound design by Ryan Rumery and M. Florian Staab.
