Sweeney Todd Celebrates 20,000 Pies Served at Barrow Street Theatre

Producers for the Tooting Arts Club production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street announced today that they have sold their 20,000th pie at Barrow Street Theatre, where the immersive revival of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical is currently running.

In addition, the production announced that the show's pie chef, William "Bill" Yosses, will create special themed pies for holiday performances in November and December. For performances November 14-26, Yosses will create a Thanksgiving pie made of organic turkey, organic squab, cornbread stuffing and chanterelle mushrooms, served with a potato galette. And the pie to be served at performances December 19-31 is a flaky crust chateaubriand en croute pot pie with filet of beef, sherry wild mushrooms, brussels sprouts, served with mashed potatoes, Aligot-style. The current meat and vegetarian pies will still be made available during these shows.

This production of Sweeney Todd comes to Manhattan following sold-out runs in London, where the show debuted in Harrington's Pie and Mash Shop, the oldest continuously operating pie shop in Britain. Directed by Bill Buckhurst, the Stephen Sondhem-Hugh Wheeler musical is set in a working pie-shop environment re-created at the Barrow Street Theatre. The revival opened March 1, with tickets currently on sale through February 25, 2018.

The current cast includes Hugh Panaro (Sweeney Todd) and Tony Award nominee Carolee Carmello (Mrs. Lovett), with Stacie Bono (Pirelli & Beggar Woman), Jake Boyd (Anthony), Eryn LeCroy (Johanna), Michael James Leslie (Judge Turpin), John-Michael Lyles (Tobias), and John Rapson (The Beadle). Colin Anderson, Matt Leisy, David Michael Garry, Liz Pearce, Danny Rothman, Monet Sabel, and Anne Tolpegin round out the cast.
