Those seeking family fare should head over to the mammoth Walnut Street Theatre, the city's largest and richest company, which excels at staging spectacular musicals. With Richard Stafford handling the direction and choreography, Disney's Beauty and the Beast should be another holiday winner for the company and audiences alike (November 8-January 8).
LA Kids Spotlight: November '05

As the year-end holidays approach, there's a lot of family fare on tap. The Kirk Douglas Theatre brings us Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Nilo Cruz's A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings (opening Nov. 19), based on a short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. about two children who meet a man who they believe is an angel. South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa offers Bunnicula (opening November 11), described as a rabbit tale of mystery and music. Santa Monica Playhouse's musical matinee series gets an early start on the yuletide season with All About Santa (opening Nov. 5), Evelyn Rudie and Chris DeCarlo's frolic about a mysterious visitor to the North Pole. Finally, The Orange County Performance Arts Center hosts Dora's Pirate Adventure (opening November 2), a swashbuckling adventure with a plucky heroine.
D.C. Metro Kids Spotlight: November '05
For family fun, head over to Bethesda's Round House Theatre, which is presenting A Year with Frog and Toad. Robert and Willie Reale's musical version of Arnold Lobel's children's book on the unusual friendship between a cheerful Frog and a grumpy Toad who learn life's biggest lessons theater delighted Broadway audiences. Here, Signature Theatre mainstay Will Gartshore stars with Steven Tipton under Nick Olcott's direction (November 16-December 11).
Boston Kids Spotlight: November '05
Family fare is everywhere this season. Vermont's Bread and Puppet Theater should meet with a warm reception when it settles into the Cambridge Family YMCA to present The National Circus and Passion of the Correct Moment (November 13-20) for adults and a special youth-oriented program, The Circus of the Correct Moment (November 19-20); the Stoneham Theatre has fashioned a comic Christmas Story (November 25-December 23) out of the 1983 movie (based on the novel by Jean Shepherd) about a little boy dead-set on scoring a BB gun from Santa.
