Richard Easton to Recite The Bard’s Poem at NY Philharmonic Performances of Bluebeard’s Castle

Tony Award winner Richard Easton will recite the prologue to Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, also known as The Bard’s Poem, at the start of the New York Philharmonic’s performances of the piece, to be offered March 18-19 at 8:00pm and March 22, at 7:30pm at Avery Fisher Hall. Easton replaces Marthe Keller, who has withdrawn due to illness. Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct.

Bluebeard’s Castle is part of the program for the concluding entry in the Philharmonic’s Hungarian Echoes festival. Other pieces will include Ligeti’s Concert Românesc and Haydn’s Symphony No. 7, Le Midi. Michelle DeYoung and Gábor Bretz will serve as are the soloists.

Easton received a Tony Award for his performance in The Invention of Love. Among his other Broadway credits are Elling, The Coast of Utopia, The Rivals, Henry IV, Noises Off, The School for Scandal, The Misanthrope, Exit the King, The Cherry Orchard, and Hamlet. In 2008 he was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame.
