Glee's Matthew Morrison to Lead Broadway Cast of Finding Neverland

The Broadway vet makes his long-awaited return to the New York stage in the new musical.

Matthew Morrison, the Emmy- and Tony Award-nominated star of Glee and The Light in the Piazza, will make his official return to Broadway this spring, taking on the role of J.M. Barrie in the new musical Finding Neverland at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Directed by Diane Paulus, the production begins performances March 15, with opening night set for April 15.

Featuring a score by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy and a book by James Graham, Finding Neverland explores the friendship of playwright J.M. Barrie's and Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, a widowed mother whose four boys inspired the beloved Peter Pan stories. It based on the 2004 film of the same title, which itself was based on Allan Knee's play The Man Who Was Peter Pan.

Further casting for the Broadway production will be announced in the coming months. When Finding Neverland played Boston's American Repertory Theater earlier this year, the company featured Jeremy Jordan as J.M. Barrie, with Laura Michelle Kelly as Sylvia, Michael McGrath as Charles Frohman, Carolee Carmello as Madame du Maurier, Jeanna de Waal as Mary Barrie, Aidan Gemme as Peter, Alex Dreier as Michael, Sawyer Nunes as George, and Hayden Signoretti as Jack.

On the creative team are Mia Michaels (choreography), Scott Pask (scenic design), Suttirat Larlarb (costume design), Philip Rosenberg (lighting design), Jonathan Deans (sound design), Gilles Papain (projection design), Daniel Wurtzel (fan design), David Chase (musical supervisor), Mary-Mitchell Campbell (musical director), and Simon Hale (orchestrations).
