Gingold Theatrical Group’s Project Shaw will present A Chekhov and Shaw Comedy Night on September 21 at Symphony Space’s Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre. Artistic director David Staller will helm the production.

The evening will feature new translations of Anton Chekhov's Swan Song, a brief play in which an actor finally takes a sobering look his life after he has just given his final performance, and A Tragedian in Spite of Himself, a comedic take on the roles we allow ourselves to undertake in life. Tony winner George S. Irving (Me and My Girl) and John Cariani (Something Rotten!) will star.

From George Bernard Shaw's canon, the production includes Press Cuttings, a short comedy about the struggle for women’s rights and the ever-present power of the press. The plot follows two dynamic women who hold a top-level general captive. The cast includes Tony winner Fritz Weaver (Ring Round the Moon), John Cariani, Jackie Hoffman (On the Town), Cynthia Harris (Bad Habits), Christine Pedi (Talk Radio), and Diane Stilwell Weinberg. Additional casting is pending.

"We’re thrilled at GTG/Project Shaw to bring our loyal audiences Chekhov for the first time in this series," said Staller in a statement. "We will be presenting the world premiere of new adaptations of two of the Russian master's short but potent comedies. Along with Ibsen, Chekhov was the man responsible for inspiring Shaw to write plays in the first place. Joining these two delightful pieces will be one short Shaw play about women's rights and the power of the press."
