The play, which had its Off-Broadway debut in 1987, focuses on the relationship between Daisy Werthan, a 72-year-old Jewish widow living in mid-century Atlanta, and Hoke, her African-American chauffeur. The film version later won the Academy Award for Best Picture, which also earned Uhry an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
The creative team includes John Lee Beatty (Scenic Design), Jane Greenwood (Costume Design), Peter Kaczorowski (Lighting Design), Wendall K. Harrington (Projection Design), Christopher Cronin (Sound Design), and Mark Bennett (Music).
