Sean Mahon will star as Richard Hannay in the Broadway production of The 39 Steps, beginning January 21 when the production re-opens at the Helen Hayes Theater, following the conclusion of performances at the Cort Theatre on January 4.

Directed by Maria Aitken, the play is a comedic take on Hitchcock’s 1935 classic thriller of the same name about a man who is forced by a mysterious woman’s death into a cross-country race for his life. The play is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan. The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, as well as two Tony Awards, and two Drama Desk Awards.

The cast also stars Francesca Faridany (Annabella Schmidt, Margaret and Pamela), Jeffrey Kuhn (Man #1), and Arnie Burton (Man #2). The creative team includes Peter McKintosh (sets and costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Mic Pool (sound).

Mahon previously appeared on Broadway in The Seafarer. He is a founding member of The Virtual Theater Project, and additional theater credits include Savage in Limbo, Translations, Ourselves Alone, The Visit, and Stones in his Pockets.
