Local high school drama and music students have been extended an open invitation to see the Off-Broadway production of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris for free through January 7.

The musical, which features Brel's compositions, has been a hit with audiences for four decades. Translated from the French by American poet Eric Blau and lyricist Mort Shuman, it is a diverse blend of ballads, tangos, boleros, rock, and classics. The current revival, now in the 10th month of its run at the Zipper Theater, stars Robert Cuccioli, Natascia Diaz, Gay Marshall and Jim Stanek. American Idol's Constantine Maroulis will join the cast beginning January 9, replacing Stanek.

"Jacques Brel is an artist that every young drama student should know about.," states lead producer Dan Whitten. "I want to provide an opportunity for them to experience the power and timeliness of Brel, particularly in these times."

All free student tickets must be arranged through a high school drama or music teacher; teachers should email the producer's office at dkwhit@aol.com with a cc to the general manager's office at josh@richardscliman.com. Free tickets are subject to availability. In addition, student rush tickets are always available for $20 on the day of each performance.
