Will Finding Neverland Hit Broadway Next Season?

By New York City

Producer Harvey Weinstein is in talks with Broadway theater owners for a 2013-14 season slot for the new show Finding Neverland according to The New York Times.

The musical, based on the 2004 film of the same name, features a script by Allan Knee and a score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie. The work explores the life of author J.M. Barrie, his relationship with widow Sylvia Liewellyn Davies and her four children, and the creation of his novel, The Adventures of Peter Pan.

A production, directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford and starring Julian Ovenden and Rosalie Craig, recently played at the Curve Theater in Leicester, England. Weinstein is also reportedly eyeing a West End run in Spring 2013.

In the Times article, Weinstein admits that the musical still needs work, especially in the first act. He has also reportedly asked the opinion of many industry insiders, including Bono and actor James Corden.

The musical was originally slated to be part of the La Jolla Playhouse's 2011-2012 season, but Weinstein pulled the plug when he decided the show needed further development.
